Coyote Island
Are you from Maine originally?
I was born in England actually but grew up coming to see my Grandparents here since I was a young lad.
How did you become a musician? What inspired you?
My parents got me a bass when I was about 13. I was newly into punk rock and ska music at the time and the bass lines were fun to play. I had few lessons but mostly just learned by ear and from friends who were better than me. I moved to rhythm guitar shortly after.
Tell me more about “Here Before”. What was the inspiration behind it and does it tell a story?
Lyrically It was inspired by meeting my fiancé at a full moon bon fire party, I I arrived late to the party and was experimenting with “psychedelic plant medicines” it was a wonderful night! The chorus though, was written years ago on my travels out west. That feeling of going places for the first time and wondering why it feels so familiar. “I’ve been here before, and so have you"
Do you plan to launch new music?
I have released 4 singles since July and plan to release 4 more in the new year followed by an album!
Do you plan to perform live or virtually anywhere in the near future?
Will be mostly virtually, especially now that the weather is cooling down. I plan to get creative though and share my music from various locations, as well as a glimpse into my recording process. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook! @coyoteisland I play down here in Kennebunk on most Saturdays at Live Cafe. As the season changes we are planning some special, limited seating concerts this winter. Something for the locals to come out for, while staying safe and socially distancing as we get through these times. Follow @livecafemaine to stay in the loop on concerts.
