The Jacob James
Are you from Maine originally? If not, where are you from?
I am! I grew up on North Haven island off the coast of ME. My bandmate, Bill Trevaskis, and I are currently living in North Haven. Bill is originally from CA.
How did you become a musician? What inspired you?
I have been a music fan since I can remember. Falling in love with my Dad’s record collection and listening to The Beatles while driving around the island with him at an early age had a big impact on my dream of playing music and being in a band one day. The first time I saw a drum set at a friend’s house when I was 10 or 11 sparked something in me and I started teaching myself how to play very soon after that.
Tell me more about Live It Up and the messaging behind it.
Some of the songs written for the album I wrote with a live show in mind and this was one of them. I guess in some ways I was trying to write a fun anthem inspired by Queen, Journey, or an 80’s arena pop song. This song came after a very difficult life-changing period of my life. I was learning to love life again and trying something different from singing about fun and being in the moment and not being afraid to be yourself.
Do you plan to launch new music?
We have a few new singles we will probably release this Fall and a vinyl release of the new album will be down the road some point.
Do you plan to perform live or virtually anywhere in the near future?
We just played a drive-in concert on the island with some other bands and it was a lot of fun. We want to play more shows and we will!
