Featured Makers

  • Bixby Chocolate

All Bixby products are manufactured in a 125-year-old former ice plant located on a working marina in Rockland, ME, on Maine’s mid-coast. Over time, Bixby has been restoring this historic building.

Kate ensures that the quality organic cocoa beans are directly sourced from Caribbean countries such as the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Belize and Central America’s Guatemala. Kate has visited these areas where she met the farmers who produce the cocoa beans that Bixby Chocolate sources.

Bixby Chocolate’s innovations include producing its own chocolate straight from the cocoa bean for several new bean-to-bar chocolate bars, and its newly created chocolate bonbons, chocolate nibs and chocolate-covered coffee beans.

Chocolate bars are $8 each but there are plenty more products you can enjoy for the holidays!

  • Brant & Cochran

Brant & Cochran was founded in 2015 after Steve Ferguson could not find a high-quality, American-made axe for his godson who was going to forestry school. Being in Maine, which was once a center of axe making in the U.S., Steve, his brother Mark and their partner Barry Worthing decided to do something about it. Brant & Cochran’s mission is no less than preserving and reviving the traditional craft of axe making in Maine.

In 2018, they sold their first Maine wedge pattern axe - The Allagash Cruiser. This was followed up by the Dirigo Belt Axe in 2019, and the limited edition Forester’s Friend - a Maine wedge double-bit cruiser axe in 2021.

  • Nick Rossi Knives

All heat treating and thermocycling is done in-house, by Nick. Varying construction methods are used depending on the design of the knife, but every knife is designed to withstand generations of use. This is ensured with rigorous and destructive testing. Just because this craft started in 3200 BC doesn’t mean we are stuck there: Controlled kilns, liquid nitrogen and peer-reviewed research are just as important as a practiced eye and steady hand.

  • Old Maine Outfitters

Old Maine Outfitters was founded for a purpose. Recently, we have all become painfully aware that striped bass are in trouble and need our help. Their population is plummeting and they are being overfished. As a way to give back and help support these amazing creatures we get to spend our Maine summers with, I decided to start Old Maine Outfitters. The goal is to create gear and apparel for all anglers and outdoor enthusiasts while at the same time helping to restore a fish we hold so dear. Now and forever, Old Maine Outfitters will donate 25% of all profits to striped bass and fisheries conservation. Whether you purchase something from us or not, I encourage all of you to get involved and help save these incredible fish.

  • Rugged Seas

    The bib to bag cycle.

We work hard with a handful of local companies to keep our products made in Maine. The recycling process starts and finishes with the fishermen by the purchase and return of their bibs to local stores.

Hamilton Marine and Vessel Services have set our drop sites at their locations for fishermen to recycle their old, used bibs. We then use a local dry cleaning company, Pratt Abbott, to wash the worn gear and bring the material back to life. The cleaned bibs are then delivered to a local, family-owned business Maine. The material is laid out, cut and sewn into our Rugged Seas bags. We also work with Guy Cotten, a company that has been making hauling pants for over 50 years to recycle their remnant material.

These partnerships have enabled us to bring our model full circle and recycle the bib materials from the production to destruction all while keeping the business in Maine.

  • Smithey Ironware

Smithey Ironware is a backyard story. Our founder, Isaac Morton, hatched the idea for Smithey while tinkering around his woodshed admiring the smooth surfaces and timeless logos design of vintage ironware. Here, he developed an expertise in restoring beautiful old cookware pieces, which he would then gift to friends and family.

After years of studying collector’s books and bird-dogging rusty old pieces to restore to their 1890’s 19th century glory, the prospect of creating something new piqued his curiosity. Creating and sharing a cast iron cookware line that honored the classic style of vintage pieces, but also harnessed modern technology and processes, just felt like a good idea. And from that idea – that a lost art might be restored into a modern icon - Smithey Ironware was born.

  • The Vermont Marshmallow Co.

handcrafted (lovingly, in vermont, of course)

as they should be, right?! we make our magical marshmallows in small batches (20 bags at a time). i see it as one of my primary responsibilities to ensure a throughline of joy from the moment we develop the recipe, to the moment you pop a marshmallow out of the bag. i truly believe you can taste the difference when your food is made by happy, healthy, thriving hands.

    pillowy. as. heck.

handcrafted marshmallows are a completely different beast from the mass produced stuff. like, so different that a huge portion of our customer base didn't identify as "marshmallow people" before trying ours, and now they're regulars! if you're into marshmallows already, you're gonna LOVE 'em. if you're not into marshmallows already... well, get ready to be.

    boldly flavored

we are a team of trained chefs funneling everything we know about flavor and texture into the sweet, humble marshmallow. our recipes go through a rigorous research & development stage, which involves having our robust community of fellow chefs give us feedback until the recipes pass the "wow test."

  • Wayward Trading Post

Net making and finely detailed epoxy illustrations have one thing in common. They both require the artist to make a circle fit into a square. Wood bending comes in many forms. My craft starts with the log that has to be cut in a particular fashion or it will not bend as well as it should. Traditional bending methods require steam or moisture to make the wood flexible enough to create the net hoop.

Geographically speaking, I hit the lottery. Lancaster Pennsylvania is one of the best lumber sourcing areas you could ask for, and I always get the wood I search for. As a final note on this subject, I plant a tree for every net that I sell. I want to overcorrect my carbon footprint.

My epoxy illustrations are finely detailed. Epoxy is unlike anything else I have ever worked with. When most people think of working with Epoxy, they think of volume. Pouring a bucket of epoxy onto a table or what have you. I often use as little as would fit on the head of a sewing needle.

I’ve done some wild stuff over these few years. I got to put a man’s army medal into a wooden purpleheart handle which was amazing. I also got to put family pets into everlasting epoxy glory. Every phone call I receive has a new challenge that stretches and builds my skills and that process is fulfilling.
