USOA Ms. Maine 2025

My name is Kristan Vermeulen, now known as Ms. Maine 2025.  I am an entrepreneur and advocate for American craftsmanship.  With a Master of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Marketing from Hood College, I have built a career focused on empowering small businesses and makers across the nation.

In 2022, I was honored with the MaineBiz 40 Under 40 award, recognizing my impactful contributions to the community.  I have appeared on national television, including Good Morning America to promote my platform, Makers of the USA, which highlights individuals creating handmade products. Through this initiative, I foster meaningful connections with aspiring entrepreneurs, sharing my expertise and mentoring them in their journeys to build successful businesses.  My dedication to American-made products is reflected in my commitment to using only domestic clothing for my pageant appearances.  I actively support various nonprofit organizations, including the Maine Craft Association and the CEI Women’s Business Center, and engage with young leaders by sharing my career journey with high school students.

With a vision to transform my platform into a national television show and turn Makers of the USA into a nonprofit, I aim to amplify the voices of small businesses and communities, filling a vital gap and celebrating the art of making in America.

How Can You Support Ms. Maine?

  • Dream it.

I have worked hard for over four years to create Makers of the USA. In order to educate and amplify voices of makers, I have kept dreaming of different ways to do that. This includes the platform of United States of American Pageants. I want to inform females across the USA that you can shop local and support makers by wearing their pieces and incorporating them into your everyday collection of apparel. I continue to dream about other opportunities but I’m starting here first.

  • Build it.

In order to educate and encourage females to support local businesses and makers, I need to wear it, show off their work and support them on the runway. Every piece that I wear during pageant weekend is locally crafted by a maker who has a story. Most makers in fashion in the USA craft custom pieces and it takes time, a lot of resources and money. I would like to raise funds in order to pay them back for the pieces they craft for me.

  • Grow it.

If I win the United States of America Ms. Title, I plan to turn my Makers of the USA platform into a non-profit organization. I want to support makers nationwide by sharing their stories, assisting them with content creation, being their brand advocate, and providing them with resources to continue their goal of being fully American-made. To be considered as Ms. USOA, I need assistance getting out to Las Vegas for nationals on Memorial Day Weekend. Let’s bring a title home to Maine!
