Renee Coolbrith
Are you from Maine originally?
Yes! Born and raised in Portland Maine.
How did you become a musician?
I actually sang, wrote, and played guitar in secret starting around the ten. Well, not a “secret secret”, but I never showed anybody outside of a couple of siblings.
What inspired you?
John Frusciante’s guitar playing in his solo stuff starting with “Niandre Lades And Usually Just A T-Shirt” got me to want to start playing guitar. I also was obsessed with anything oldies and anything rockin.
Tell me more about the track All I Need.
“All I Need” and was a collaboration with producer, rapper, and multi-instrumentalist Graphic Melee, who is an incredible staple in the local music and hip hop community. Met him through performing at events thrown by Monday Of The Minds.
What was the inspiration behind it and does it tell a story?
I basically had a terrible year and felt a lot of anguish. What I usually do during times of suffering is I try to be as honest with myself with my personal growth and validate what I am dealing with as brutal as it may be. I am super lucky to have music help me with that.
Do you plan to launch new music?
I actually just also co-wrote the new Joel Thetford album “January Heartbreak” that was just released on April 19th! Currently working on releasing a new solo track with Brightboy on production. I am also working on recording and releasing my solo album “A Killer Named Sugar” which is seasoned with some of my favorite musicians and producers. It is set to release this summer!
Do you plan to perform live or virtually anywhere in the near future?
I just performed a live stream with Joel Thetford on April 24th with paradox TV which you can find on their Vimeo page and my Facebook.
I’ll be performing May 19th at the Stone Church in NH and am open for other booking dates, just honestly trying to be realistic and smart about the general public’s health.
